27 RESCUE COMPLETES TASK FORCE 1 TRUCK COMPANY OPERATIONS TRAINING

VIDEO

ABOVE: Firefighter Robert Hegedus and Lieutenant Vince Cesari III work to vent a roof via the 43 Tower Ladder

The above video is from the 27 RESCUE "Fire Helmet Cam" as  firefighter Robert Hegedus (27 RESCUE) is instructed by FDNY Captain Tony Tricario (252 Squad) on how to self rescue.

Captain Tricario instructs the firefighter how to properly tie off to an object then use the Gemtor Harness.

The firefighter then descends effortlessly from a second story window.

Filmed on location at the Dalton (PA-USA) Fire Training Center 30 September 2007.  The training program was part of the Task Force 1 Truck Operations Program.

The Volunteer Hose Co (Lackawanna County Department of public Safety designation "27 RESCUE") in Throop PA has been around since 1928.  Since the company's inception the fire services has undergone dramatic changes from equipment to personal protection to utilizing specialty services and companies to execute certain tasks.

In order to keep up with the demands that volunteer fire protection now requires firefighters spend their off weekends training.  When these firefighters give up their time and energy to train the end result is YOUR IMPROVED fire protection.  The residents of the Borough of Throop are awarded the latest in emergency services protection of their lives and property.  The costs to the residents of Throop: FREE.

This week the firefighters of the 27 RESCUE were joined by firefighters from Blakely, Browndale (Wayne County), Dalton, Taylor and the Irmo Fire Department of Charleston South Carolina.  The students assembled at the firehouse  located at 401 Dunmore Street where they received several hours of lecture related to the safe and effective operations when operating as a truck company.  When the lecture portion of the program was completed the class moved to the Northeast PA Emergency Services Training Center in Newton Ransom PA.  There firefighters were able to execute the skills they were lectured on.   Some of the skills included forcible entry, search for life and/or fire in addition to the most important firefighter Rapid Intervention Teams.

The program was hosted by the Volunteer Hose Company and is one of the many training opportunities offered by the locally-operated Task Force 1 of Wayne County Pennsylvania.  The instructors for this private training company are assembled from a unique group of both career and volunteer firefighter with decades of experience.  The instructors teach how they safe execute the job on a daily, sometimes hourly basis.  Their knowledge combined with the desire to learn creates on of the most opportune environments anyone could ask for.

The class participants will be at it again soon, training that is, as they prepare for National Firefighter Certification in Firefighting and Rescue Practices.

Anyone interested in volunteering in 90% sheer boredom and 10% pure terror is invited to contact the Volunteer Hose Co No 3 at 570-489-5761.

Don't forget to check our site often for updates on how the 27 RESCUE is training for YOUR SAFETY.
