RESCUE HOSTS HAZ-MAT TRAINING

FIREFIGHTERS COMPLETE PRO-BOARD TESTING

22 MARCH 2008

1500 hours

This morning the Volunteer Hose Co was host to a Hazardous Materials training program.  The four hour session is a precursor to the various levels of Haz-Mat training available through Bucks County Community College's Public Safety Training Center.

Participants were lectured on the proper use of several Emergency Response Guides necessary with first response.

The program, instructed by Scranton Firefighter and PA State Fire Academy John Judge,  is an introduction to the identification of Hazardous Materials, placards, labels, containers  and their several shipping methods among other topics.

Immediately following the program participants are tested on their knowledge.  Several of the attendees also tested to a national certification level.

Congratulations to the Emergency Services Providers from the 27 RESCUE, Throop Police Department, White's Crossing Fire Department, Blakely Fire Department (Station 22), Jefferson Township Fire Department and any other company not listed for your participation.

Upon successful completion of the program participants will receive certification at the State and National Levels.  It is recommended that training be updated every two years after.

REMODELING NEARS COMPLETION

INSTALLATION OF NEW LOCKERS WELCOME CHANGE

17 MARCH 2008

2333 hours

MORE PICTURES

It has been a project decades in the making, remodel the apparatus room floor, making it more user friendly for the more than 30 active members.  Tonight the project is nearing completion.

The task started feverishly on Valentine's Day with the demolition of the "truck bay" as we had known it.  The renovation has been a complete work in progress as dynamic as you can get.  Gone are the drab grey walls that have been the mainstay.  Gone are the wooden lockers and gone is the lack of adequate space.

Over the last four weeks firefighters have used their skills to reconstruct walls, create more usable shelf space and rewire the electrical.

The changes include the final installation of the Plymo-vent, exhaust removal system, a bright red and white paint job (with accompanying accent striping) and the installation of the NEW 30 unit "ReadyRack" lockers systems.  Each firefighter will be issued a new user friendly locker complete with: helmet racks, dryer hangers, glove hooks, accessory hooks and individual strong boxes.

Final touches are being completed to the new "washer-extractor" and laundry room.  The addition of the new laundry room will allow firefighters the ability to launder their PPE on a regular basis.  Later this month the company expects delivery of at least ten full new sets of personal protective equipment.

The project is expected to be completed later this week.  If you would like to see the new apparatus room and any of the renovations you are always welcome to stop by the fire house.

RESCUE UPGRADING PPE's

NEW GEAR TO RETURN TO CLASSIC LOOK

FDNY Custom Stock

17 FEBRUARY 2008

THROOP PA

1216 hours

In January 2008 the Volunteer Hose Co received notification from the Pennsylvania Office of the State Fire Commissioner that they were awarded a grant in excess of $20,000.00.  When submitted in 2007 the grant application requested monies to replace and purchase new Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for firefighting.  Each set of gear will cost approximately $2,200.00 for the coat and pants.

With the award the company will purchase ten full sets of PPE.  The new gear comes as a welcome relief to the company that has seen its active membership swell over the last 14 months.

On February 9, 2008 a representative of Morning Pride was on hand to measure the firefighters for their gear.  The gear meets all NFPA 1971 Certified Structural Firefighting specifications and is 2007 edition certified.

The garments are similar to the gear (pictured to the left) with features similar to FDNY.  The Volunteer Hose Company has added some other features to make it more personal to the firefighters.

This purchase has the company returning to their roots by returning to the traditional black gear with lime trim that the members wore more than a decade ago.  Additional personalization includes the return of the 273 on the upper back and the individual firefighters last name on the tail.  An additional purchase will include Gemtor harnesses on each set.

Since every garment is custom ordered and manufactured it will take approximately eleven weeks for delivery.  The company expects delivery in early April.
